Malta’s quest to embark as one of the best ICT hubs in the world is proving to be fruitful to the economy. Building upon the achievements of the previous ICT Strategy 2004-2006, the Government has launched the National ICT Strategy for Malta 2008-2010 setting out sound building block to establish Malta as the ‘Smart Island’. The vision is to put ICT at the heart of social and economic activity and the ICT industry as one of the main pillars of the economy. The challenge that the National ICT Strategy is addressing is to use these technological tools as a means to an end, in an attempt to improve our quality of life.

The Investment, Industry and Information Technology Ministry is creating synergies with International Private Stakeholders such as HP, Microsoft and Oracle to bring different demographic groups closer to ICT. These synergies are providing different product offers for youths, women and the elderly by the creation of Community Technology Learning Centre, access to ICT and workforce development programmes to improve the participation of all demographic groups in ICT.

This entire nucleus surrounding ICT is inspiring new businesses with new creative ideas to service better the local and foreign market.
